ADAPTATION TO THE ENVIRONMENT

The new library of ETSAB contributes to articulating the existing residual public space in the courtyard between the schools of the UPC South Campus. Serving as a border between ETSAB and EPSEB, the new library connects Avinguda Diagonal with the reformed interior area and Pau Gargallo street.

Its heights adapt to the slight slope of the complex and achieve a transition through horizontal planes between the two main avenues.

The location of the facility has also facilitated the reorganization of the courtyard and interior green area in the South Campus, remodeling and consolidating landscaping and vehicle access to ETSAB.

UNIQUENESS AND CHARACTER

With simple, pure, and clean forms, devoid of ornaments, the volume of the library demonstrates its intention to achieve the status of an emblematic public building. Its sculptural character enhances the well-defined openings that rationally and clearly showcase the access and the large reading room. The building becomes an icon representing the community of students.
